art + story = magic
Offerings
Graphic Recording
As a graphic recorder (aka scribe / graphic facilitator / visual note taker), I capture presentations and conversations in words and illustrations. I can create these scribes digitally on my iPad, either live (such as during a Zoom conference) or from a recorded video. I am also an experienced practitioner of the MG Taylor tradition of live white-board scribing for in-person business meetings and events. My scribes of the Queers & Comics Conference appeared in The Comics Journal in 2019.
Illustration
I have been practicing drawing people all my life, and improving since my first grade teacher taught me not to draw just two iconic strands of hair on a self portrait — but to notice what hair really looks like. Now I create portraits of people and pets that show not just what the subject looks like, but the core of who they are.
I also draw portraits of pets!
Animation
I create short animations for business, nonprofit, and personal purposes. Two of my videos for Choose Democracy were retweeted hundreds of times including by Van Jones. My animations have also featured in conferences in the railway and finance industries.
Comics
I have created comics in many mediums, from a published graphic novel (Bisexual Trials and Errors — Northwest Press, 2017), to online comics for The Lily, a project of the Washington Post. I am also an adjunct professor in the Masters of Comics program at California College of Art.
Art + Story Classes
As an adjunct professor in California College of Art’s MFA in Comics program, I have experience in one-on-one teaching, coaching and mentoring. I love to help people level up their art and tell their stories, whether that means sharing technical knowledge of certain programs, finding new workflows, or nailing their story map. I have worked with remote students all over the country since before the pandemic. Check out my classes here:
